Who we are

Ako means "to teach" and "to learn" in a single, reciprocal concept. It describes a teaching and learning relationship where the educator and learner both grow from the interaction, with roles shifting as each person brings their own unique knowledge and experience to the process. The concept of ako is central to Māori culture and pedagogy, emphasizing mutual respect, wisdom sharing, and the inclusion of the learner's whānau (family) in the educational journey.

Ako is the foundation of how we build — not just with tools and materials, but with people, knowledge, and respect.

As much as we build spaces for people, we also learn about those we serve.
